In Ice Logo Graphics History:
Original IceFab® Ice Logos and in-ice logo products are the result of years of experimenting and research by DDI Signs®.
When ice rink installers first started painting the ice surface with team logos they free hand painted the logos. Installers tried using a light projector to project the logos on the ice and was painted…in the dark.
The process was improved by using an old sewing and sign painters technique of drawing a paper pounce pattern and hand perforating it with a pinwheel. Then a chalk bag is used to transfer the image to the ice surface.
The above process is still used today. As computers, technologies and new equipment evolved the process has improved. Now the paper pounce patterns are digitally printed or drawn using computer plotters and large format printers. Then the patterns are perforated with an electronic pounce pen that burns holes in the paper and creates an outline.
Some plotters have a pounce pen on them but the process does not remove all of the paper from the hole and the patterns back side has to be sanded.
The Electronic Pounce Machine is the preferred method as it burns a complete hole for the chalk to pass thru.
The first attempts at in ice logos where done using paper that was hand painted with water based paints. These ice logos where fragile and hard to install.
Some tried silk screened fabric but that was to expensive and did not work for large center ice logos. Others tried a silk screened textile that could only be used one time and was difficult to install and remove and was limited by the size of the material.
After years of using these methods to paint the ice we new there had to be a better way. Hand painting is back breaking work and takes hours. So DDI Signs® tested and developed Original IceFab® Fabric Ice Logos. Our ice logos are printed using a large format digital printer so you get photographic quality with no color limitations and no size limitations. The ice logo fabric is absorbent an forms to the ice surface and it is reusable.
We take pride in providing innovative, creative, and original solutions to meet the specialty needs of the Ice Rink Industry. So this led us to develop Original IceFab® Mesh Ice Logos. This specialty Fabric Mesh has holes in it to let water flow thru it. These are more durable and reusable. Same high quality printing as the Fabric Ice Logos but these are more affordable and last longer.

Do Under Ice Logos cause a tripping hazard for skaters?
NO. This is a false claim that was started by a company that sells ice paint, our products eliminate the need for ice paint when installing in ice logos.
No one has ever been able to provide a name of the facility, town, or even date of any such lawsuit or accident happening. We have been providing in ice logos since 1993 and have never heard from one of our customers that they had this problem. There are many reason that may cause a skater to trip on the ice, including some white base coat ice paints that are extremely abrasive or rinks installing inferior in ice logo materials that have not been tested.
OUR LOGOS ARE NOT INSTALLED ON THE ICE SURFACE, THEY ARE FROZEN UNDER THE ICE SURFACE.
Ice thickness above ice paint, logos and lines should be maintained at 1.5″ and routine ice rink maintenance is critical.
